Full Time Attendance Information

Policy Statement on Student Non-Arrival (Full Time Students)

If a student fails to arrive on or before the date of the first course day after their registration date, the following procedure will be put into action:

1. Initially informal warning will be given in accordance with the following procedure:
1.1 Where a student has registered for a Full Time course, and fails to arrive on or before the date of the first course day after their registration date, but contacts course staff, with an explanation of absence, the student's place will be held open for a length of time deemed suitable by the course staff.
1.1.1 In the event of illness preventing the student from starting the course, a medical certificate will be required for absence longer than three days.
1.1.2 In the event of travel or other difficulties, the student should keep course staff informed of their current situation and make every effort to comply with the start date.
1.1.3 In exceptional circumstances, compassionate leave may be granted for a length of time agreed with the course staff.
1.2 Where a student has registered for a Full Time course and fails to arrive on or before the date of the first course day after their registration date, but does not contact the staff, the course staff will attempt to contact the student immediately.
1.1.2 Should contact not be achieved, the student will be sent a letter explaining that their place as a Full Time student is dependent on their attendance at courses.

2. If the student fails to comply with the agreement made on initial contact with course staff, after one week has elapsed, the following procedure will be followed
2.1 A formal letter will be sent to the student warning him/her that he/she is in breach of the course regulations for Full Time students and that immediate compliance with the course attendance regulations is required
2.1.1 The student will be warned that failure to comply may result in the course staff reporting the matter to a relevant authority
2.1.2 The student may be given the option to delay the start of the course until an agreed new start date. If this is the case, such as where a visa application has been made, the student may be required to report this matter to relevant authorities.

3. If a student still fails to comply with the attendance requirements, he or she will be deemed to have reverted to Part Time status and will be sent a letter informing them of this matter.

4. Course staff reserve the right to inform relevant authorities of any change of status of the student
