| DISTANCE LEARNING: Overdue work and deferring your registration | |
| Guidelines: revised May 2008 | |
|
Sometimes students find that life circumstances make it difficult for them to keep up with the Distance Learning programme deadlines. Where a student has fallen behind, the following options are available: SUBMITTING WORK LATE 1) The student may negotiate for work to be submitted late. Where this is done, the student may either a) work with another student or students at a slower pace or b) if no other student as fallen behind, may submit written responses to discussion material already on the web and c) submit essay questions where appropriate (units 3, 6 & 9; 12,15 & 18) or book reviews. 2) Where a student submits work late, this may only be accepted at the discretion of course staff. It is within the course staff’s remit that work may be refused, especially where it is very overdue, or there is no adequate reason for the delay. 3) Late work may receive a delayed response. When students fail to complete assignments by the due date, the marking schedule is thrown out of line and students submitting late work should be prepared to wait longer for feedback. This may in turn lead to late certification. DEFERRAL OF PLACE 4) If a student wishes to defer their place for a year for whatever reason, or falls so far behind that it is necessary to register with the following year’s student group, they may request a deferral of place 5) Where a deferral of place is granted, additional payment of fees will be due. 6) The student must contact Amida Trust in early September in order to be enrolled in a new group for the course following year. 7) The student will be assigned to the new student group on re-registration and may participate in e-group discussions from the start of the year of re-registration, but is not obliged to submit work already submitted. He or she should write an introduction so that other students are aware of his or her presence on the new group. 8) Where a student requests a deferral, re-registration fees for a repeat year are 50% of total DL fees (based on fees charged during the year of the new registration) 9) Students may take a year’s gap between year one and two if they wish to do so provided they are aware that there may be changes in fees or course structure. 10) Whilst the programme has been running continuously since 1998, and Amida Trust has no intention of ceasing to operate the Buddhist Psychology Distance Learning in the foreseeable future, Amida Trust cannot guarantee to continue to provide the Distance Learning course beyond the period for which a student has enrolled. In the event of the course closing or undergoing substantial change, students may not be able to complete work late or defer places. |
